The book is a quazi-Biblical
biography of Thomas based
primarily on books uncovered
among the Nag Hammadi
Texts of Egypt, namely:
The Acts ofThomas,
The Gospelof Thomas, and
The Book of Thomas the
Contender.
The Acts of Thomas reveals Thomas
as an apostle in India - corroborated by
existing sites, landmarks, monuments,
and Christian tribes in India. The
Gospel of Thomas and The
Book of
Thomas the Contender delve into the
secret
teachings of an inner Kingdom.
Echoing Luke's dictum of the
Kingdom within you and amongst
you,The Book of Thomas the
Contender states : "He who
truly knows himself also
knows
the depth of all things." The
Gospel of Thomas states "Then
the Kingdom will also be
stretched out before you. In
this case the Rabbi, Jesus,
can truly say in Thomas' Gospel
"Split the wood and I am there.
Lift the stone and find me
there."
The book is far from being a dry,
scholarly treatise. For here
Thomas' life is brought vividly
alive in an authentic biographical
story. What effect would the
secret teachings have on
this
doubting disciple? And
as an
apostle, how would this skeptical
Jew respond to the
occult mysteries
of ancient lands including the
Hindu and Buddhist teachings
of
India?
Here the author seeks to portray what
Thomas himself might have revealed if
another scroll were found containing
his last testimony to the world.
